Air Force Night SR-71- Colonel Joe Kinego, USAF
Pensacola, Fla. – The Cpl. J.R. Spears Detachment of the Marine Corps League announces the Annual Heroes Among Us speaker series event for September 29th, 2022 with our Guest of Honor Colonel Joe Kinego, USMC
Colonel Joe Kinego (USAF, Ret) served 27 years in the United States Air Force in a variety of operational and leadership positions. He was a Command Pilot with over 4500 flying hours in the T-38, B-57, RF-4C, SR-71, B-1B, KC-135 and EC-135 aircraft. He flew 148 combat missions in the RF-4C in Southeast Asia, and over 100 strategic reconnaissance missions in the SR-71 during the Cold War. Col Kinego commanded the 1st Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron at Beale AFB, CA, the Air Force’s only SR-71 squadron, the 319th Bomb Wing at Grand Forks AFB, ND, flying B-1B and KC-135R aircraft, and the Global Operations Center at Beale AFB, CA, responsible for tasking and oversight of worldwide operational airborne reconnaissance missions. His military decorations include two Legion of Merit awards, three Meritorious Service Medals, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and 14 Air Medals.
Admission is free and open to the public, although donations will be accepted for the Heroes Among Us Fund to help veterans in need.
