Blackhawk Down - Colonel Larry Perino, US Army

Pensacola, Fla. – The Cpl. J.R. Spears Detachment of the Marine Corps League announces the Annual Heroes Among Us speaker series event for June 30th, 2022 with our Guest of Honor Colonel Larry Perino, US Army

As a recent West Point graduate and 1st Lt in the US Army, Larry Perino participated in the infamous Blackhawk Down incident in Mogadishu, Somalia in October 1993. The mission was to capture or kill the warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. The events were later depicted in the movie “Black Hawk Down”. At that time then 1st Lt Perino was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Refinement. Some 30 years later, after a review by the Secretary of the Army, Colonel Perino was presented the Silver Star, the nation’s third highest award for combat valor, for his actions on that day. Lt. Perino and his men had spent 15 hours protecting the crash site completely surrounded and under fire.

Admission is free and open to the public, although donations will be accepted for the Heroes Among Us Fund to help veterans in need.
